Day 25 – the end for me :-(

Had planned to do my training in the afternoon after walking the dog. Was a lovely day and had a great walk. But I got home and felt shattered, and in the following couple of hours deteriorated in health once again. As well as training hard I'd also been working hard and at all hours and not really making time to relax and recover properly so now my body had had enough. It was forcing me to stop so I did, and started looking at booking a holiday instead.

I am gutted that I only had 4 days to go. It has been a really good challenge for me and has given me back my focus on training and setting myself some new fitness goals. It was definitely worth doing and I know I am stronger for it!

Day 24 – take 2

Thankfully I felt better by the end of yesterday so on I went with the day 24 workout.

Day 24 measurements:

Chest: 35"
Shoulders: 39.5"
Umbillicus: 32.5"

Calf R: 14"

Day 24 workout:
Started with shoulders and I definitely have a weakness in my left side. My right arm feels like it could go on longer and lift heavier. Then was on to back which was fine and finishing with biceps and triceps. I couldn't finish as my forearms were quite tender from my old office injury of repetitive strain playing up a bit. And by the end of training I was still feeling a little run down, and looking forward to the rest week now.

Wednesday 1 April 2009

Day 24 - no go :-(

Woke up with sore throat, swollen glands, heavy upper chest and generally feeling weak, that something had invaded my bloodstream. Gutted. So close to the end! I knew I just had to rest so cancelled my clients and got some rest with the view of picking up day 24 again tomorrow.

Day 23

Had some chest soreness but not too bad as could still dress myself! Very surprised seeing as I really pushed myself yesterday.

Day 23 measurements:

Chest: 35"

Day 23 workout:
Had abs/core again. That's 3 days running! What's that about? Was supersetted with legs. Hanging leg raises after lunges? Nice! And was v.interesting ending with jump squats with v.wobbly legs!

Day 22

Day 22 measurements:

Body fat %: 26.2

Day 22 workout:
Was definitely feeling stronger today. Upped my dumbell weights for chest to 12.5kg from a measily 6kg starting weight (although this was only because I hadn't done weights for months and wanted a little pre-conditioning!). And with push ups I did as many on my toes as possible before dropping my knees. In each of the four sets I managed 15, 10, 8 and 8. Very pleased with that. Looks like I'm about half way to achieving my goal of being able to do 30 full push ups!

Sunday 29 March 2009

Day 21

Still feeling really tired and really hindered my workout. Couldn't wait to get it done today.

Day 20 workout:
Legs today and unfortunately I was limited as to how much weight I can hold due to the wear and tear in my knees. But gave it my best shot.

Day 19

Was going out for the day so had to do as much of the workout as possible first thing. Managed the first three supersets and left the rest for later.

Didn't get in until the evening and attempted to continue the workout. I had been walking all day so unfortunately just ran out of energy, had to eat something and then collapse :-(

Day 18

I thought after my huge efforts on yesterdays workout that I'd wake up with doms from hell. But no, I was surprisingly ok. Although my triceps gave me a little reminder later on in the evening. No workout again today, another rest day and probably wise.

Day 17 workout:
I knew this one was going to be a biggy from other people's blogs, and they weren't wrong! However, I really enjoyed it, seemed to have loads of energy and stamina for it and only started to feel drained when I got to the last set which was core. Unfortunately I could finish the last 2 sets as just ran out of time and had to stop for my evening clients, but could have finished it!

But STOP PRESS...I found I could do almost half a harrup curl with a kind of explosive push up! I was sooo happy as my first attempt was pitiful.

Day 16

No workout today. My first rest day for the last 14 days!

Day 15 workout:
Chest, shoulders and abs today. Upped the weights on everything for first couple of sets then had to drop down again, but feeling stronger.
Ending on box push ups made me feel feeble. But had to drags arms along the floor after!

Sunday 22 March 2009

Day 14

Have got to the point now where it doesn't feel like I've trained for the last 14 days in a row. Feels pretty good. Have got into a routine now. Get up, dressed, take photos & measurements, have breakfast etc.

Day 14 workout:

Enjoyed this workout for legs and arms today as wasn't too long again. Struggled to type after though as arms were v.heavy!

Day 13

Not getting that much soreness now so either my body has got used to the training or I'm not training hard enough!

Day 12 workout:
Lovely easy day today. Just 10 sets of 10 windmills :-)

Friday 20 March 2009

Day 11

Felt exhausted again last night and had to drag myself to bed. Woke with different leg doms today, around the top of my inner thigh. I blame the 100 deadlifts!

Arm R: 10.5"

Calf L: 14"

Calf R: 14"

Day 11 workout:

The only problem with doing chest today was that it was still sore from 3 days ago! Evil, pure eveil for chest today. For the first time had to resort to box push ups to finish. Will be surprised if I can dress myself tomorrow! Come to think of it, the whole of todays workout was evil!

Day 10

Felt a bit more refreshed today with not too many aches. Diet went to pieces a little over the last couple of days in the form of a few sugary substances. I'm blaming my need for energy, my hormones and my family for having tempting stuff in the house! I need to sort that out quickly if I have any chance at all of reducing my midrift.

Day 9

Boy was I tired by the end of the day. Fell asleep on the sofa at about 9.30pm, and just managed to drag myself upstairs and into bed. Woke this morning feeling like gravity was pushing me into the floor.

Day 9 measurements:
Chest: 35"
Shoulders: 39"
Umbillicus: 33"

Hips: 37.5"
Thighs (gluteal fold) L: 21.75"

Calf R: 14"

Arm L: 10.75"
Arm R: 10.5"

Day 9 workout:
Trying to train with a very heavy and tired body proved somewhat of a challenge today! So was very please there was only 2 lots of sets. Found windmills tough as my body was half seized up!

Monday 16 March 2009

Day 8

I realised that I should also be measuring my calf aswell, oops! Have now added in. Arms have reduced by 1/4 of an inch and hips 1/2 an inch, hopefully from fat reduction!

Day 8 measurements:

Chest: 35"
Shoulders: 39"
Umbillicus: 33"

Hips: 37.5"
Thighs (gluteal fold) L: 21.75"

Arm L: 10.75"
Arm R: 10.25"
Weight: 9st 3.2lbs
Body fat%: 26.2

Day 8 workout:

Today was a killer and didn't make it to the end in one go. Yes it was long but I also worked hard right from the start so really took it's toll on my stamina levels. Managed to do the first 6 supersets leaving the last 2 sets of side laterals and triceps for the afternoon. Was interesting trying to lift a knife and fork with shaky fatigued arms!

Sunday 15 March 2009

Day 7

Was a glorious sunny day today so spent most of the main part of the day sitting in the garden and having a well-earned rest and a catch up reading fitness magazines that had been piling up. And nothing was going to drag me out of my chair for a few hours!

Have noticed that the top of my thighs and arms have reduced slightly, hopefully due to a slight bodyfat reduction, and my lower thighs have increased! Really would like to see my umbillicus measurement go down as this is where I hold most of my fat, but need to clean up my diet 100% for this instead of the 90% that I have been doing the last week (smack wrists!).

Day 7 measurements:
Chest: 35"
Shoulders: 39"
Umbillicus: 33"

Hips: 38"
Thighs (gluteal fold) L: 21.75"
Thighs (gluteal fold) R: 22.25"
Thighs (SB of patella) L: 18.25"
Thighs (SB of patella) R: 18.75"
Arm L: 10.75"
Arm R: 10.75"

Day 7 workout:
Worked out at home in the end after more time outside walking the doggies (well, more like being dragged for a walk by the doggies! Not good with chest doms!). Just 3 supersets today for legs and abs. Actually doing 4x40 squat jumps this time wasn't
too bad. Would still like to achieve all 40 in one hit though. Day 8 tomorrow looks like a big one. Early night tonight (she says typing this at 10.20pm!)

Day 6

Woke to a lovely sunny day just wanted to be outside in the fresh air and not in a studio. That may have affected my mood to train and started off feeling quite tired so training seemed tough today. That and my chest was in bits from yesterday's session! Also decided to add a couple more shots to my photos which will hopefully be a better indicator of whether I will have gained muscle.

Day 6 measurements:
Chest: 35"
Shoulders: 39"
Umbillicus: 33"
Hips: 38"

Thighs (gluteal fold) L: 22"
Thighs (gluteal fold) R: 22.5"
Thighs (SB of patella) L: 18"
Thighs (SB of patella) R: 18.5"
Arm L: 11"
Arm R: 11"

Day 6 workout:
Six supersets today for back and arms. My low back didn't ache so much this time doing the prone cobras, so I must have already gained some strength there. First batch was tough but found some old tunes which perked me up for bi's and tri's. Finished my day off with a brisk walk round the woods with my family and the dogs, which I really needed :-)

Friday 13 March 2009

Day 5

Still woke with very sore quads and was waiting for the hamstrings to join in, but surprisingly they weren't screaming after yesterday's session. I did have a good night's sleep though so didn't feel so drained today.

Day 5 measurements:
Chest: 35"
Shoulders: 39"
Umbillicus: 33"

Hips: 38"
Thighs (gluteal fold) L: 22"

Thighs (gluteal fold) R: 22.5"
Thighs (SB of patella) L: 18"
Thighs (SB of patella) R: 18.5"
Arm L: 11"
Arm R: 11"

Day 5 workout:
Am getting quite into the training now and already feeling better for it. Although the millions of push ups were the most challenging part for me I got through it. Dragged my arms along the floor afterwards though!

Thursday 12 March 2009

Day 4

I finished with clients last night just after 9pm, so when I finally dragged myself to bed I fell asleep the moment my head was horizontal. I woke and anticipated total body seizure, then moved and thought, ok, not too bad...then as the morning progressed, so did the aches in my quads. They don't call them DOMS for nothing! And might have something to do with my thigh measurements increasing slightly!

Day 4 measurements:
Chest: 35"
Shoulders: 39"
Umbillicus: 33"

Hips: 38"
Thighs (gluteal fold) L: 22"
Thighs (gluteal fold) R: 22.5"
Thighs (SB of patella) L: 18"
Thighs (SB of patella) R: 18.5"
Arm L: 11"
Arm R: 11"

Day 4 workout:
Great, a shorter workout I thought. And yes it was, but after my arm supersets were done it was on to hamstrings. With my whole body feeling heavy from the previous day and the soreness in my quads, made it quite a challenge. Although lookin
g at tomorrow's workout I definitely need an early night tonight!

Day 3

Not too many aches after day 2 thankfully, but I'm sure that will change! I did notice that although my measurements were still the same, my belly was definitely less bloated compared to my day 1 pics.

Day 3 measurements:
Chest: 35"
Shoulders: 39"
Umbillicus: 33"
Hips: 38"
Thighs (gluteal fold) L: 22"
Thighs (gluteal fold) R: 22.5"
Thighs (SB of patella) L: 17.75"
Thighs (SB of patella) R: 17.75"
Arm L: 11"
Arm R: 11"

Day 3 workout:
This was pretty tough. First was a quad hammering which I managed and actually quite enjoyed, but staggered around the studio with jelly legs for a little while after! Then chest and back combo after which was fine, but when I got to the last core set my energy levels were really low. I made it through, but it wasn't pretty!

Tuesday 10 March 2009

Day 2

I woke expecting my hamstrings to be screaming but thankfully were ok. It was my back that had all the aches from the numerous cobras!

Day 2 measurements:
Chest: 35"
Shoulders: 39"
Umbillicus: 33"
Hips: 38"
Thighs (gluteal fold) L: 22"
Thighs (gluteal fold) R: 22.5"
Thighs (SB of patella) L: 17.75"
Thighs (SB of patella) R: 17.75"
Arm L: 11"
Arm R: 11"

Day 2 workout:

Shoulders, biceps and triceps today, and much less than yesterday thankfully so made it through it all no problems this time.

Monday 9 March 2009

Day 1

Up I got this morning looking forward to beginning a new (but tough) journey. I took my photos and measurements and set off for the studio.

Day 1 measurements:
Chest: 35"
Shoulders: 39"
Umbillicus: 33"
Hips: 38"
Thighs (gluteal fold) L: 22"
Thighs (gluteal fold) R: 22.5"
Thighs (SB of patella) L: 17.75"
Thighs (SB of patella) R: 17.75"
Arm L: 11"
Arm R: 11"
Weight: 9st 3.8lb
Body fat %: 26.4

Day 1 workout:

I began the workout and soon realised was how weak my lower back was. Having spent 15 years sitting at an office desk had real
ly taken its toll and it began to ache very quickly. I also didn't make it to the end of the workout to which I was left very disappointed with myself. I think a combination of running out of steam due to not having slept well at the weekend, and realising that having not done any weight training for a while, that my muscular strength needs some attention! But hey it wasn't going to be easy so onwards and upwards! Bring on day 2! :-)

Preparation

Hi and welcome to my Muscle in a Month challenge blog. I am due to begin the challenge this Monday 9th March so this week has been about getting organised and mentally prepared. Having spent the last 6 months concentrating on building up my new fitness business my own training has fallen by the wayside somewhat. Now, after helping other people with their fitness goals, it's now time to achieve some of mine.

1. Reduce my body fat percentage
2. Gain a bit more muscle and definition
3. Commit to a strict regime (after all if I cannot do it myself, how can I expect my clients to!)

Aspirational image attached! Roll on Monday...
